Pre-purchase inspection checklist

2000 Mazda mpv es

VIN JM3LW28GXY0105799

Inspect these first — most-reported on this model

Engine And Engine Cooling (25 owner reports)Check coolant level and color, look for leaks, and confirm the engine reaches normal temperature without overheating.
Tires (19 owner reports)Check tread depth, the DOT age date, and that all four tires match with even wear. Look for bulges or cracks.
Structure (18 owner reports)Inspect for rust, fresh undercoating, mismatched paint, uneven panel gaps and any sign of prior collision or frame repair.
Air Bags (15 owner reports)Confirm the airbag light turns on then off at startup — if it stays lit there's a fault (costly, and a safety risk). Check for signs of prior deployment.
Seat Belts (13 owner reports)Check that every belt latches, retracts and locks under a sharp tug, and that none are frayed.
Service Brakes (11 owner reports)Brakes should feel firm and quiet — no grinding, pulsing or pulling. Check for an ABS light and uneven pad/rotor wear.
