Pre-purchase inspection checklist

2008 Mazda CX-9 Touring

VIN JM3TB38A280129222

Inspect these first — most-reported on this model

Suspension (55 owner reports)Listen for clunks over bumps, check the car sits level, and look for uneven tire wear and worn shocks or struts.
Service Brakes (30 owner reports)Brakes should feel firm and quiet — no grinding, pulsing or pulling. Check for an ABS light and uneven pad/rotor wear.
Air Bags (28 owner reports)Confirm the airbag light turns on then off at startup — if it stays lit there's a fault (costly, and a safety risk). Check for signs of prior deployment.
Power Train (27 owner reports)Drive through every gear: watch for slipping, hard or delayed shifts, and shudder. Check for transmission/driveline leaks and noises.
Steering (19 owner reports)Steering should be tight and centered — no play, clunks or wandering. Test at low and highway speed; listen for power-steering whine.
Wheels (16 owner reports)Inspect wheels for bends, cracks and curb rash, and feel for vibration at highway speed.
