Pre-purchase inspection checklist

1999 Toyota Celica

VIN JTDDR38T7X0019894

Inspect these first — most-reported on this model

Tires (4 owner reports)Check tread depth, the DOT age date, and that all four tires match with even wear. Look for bulges or cracks.
Seat Belts (2 owner reports)Check that every belt latches, retracts and locks under a sharp tug, and that none are frayed.
Air Bags (1 owner report)Confirm the airbag light turns on then off at startup — if it stays lit there's a fault (costly, and a safety risk). Check for signs of prior deployment.
Power Train (1 owner report)Drive through every gear: watch for slipping, hard or delayed shifts, and shudder. Check for transmission/driveline leaks and noises.
Fuel System (1 owner report)Sniff for fuel odor, check for leaks, hard starts or stalling, and confirm the fuel gauge reads correctly.
Gasoline (1 owner report)Have a trusted mechanic inspect this system as part of a pre-purchase inspection.
