About the Ford Expedition
The Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV produced by Ford Motor Company since the 1997 model year. Introduced as the replacement for the 1978–1996 Ford Bronco, the Expedition again maintained commonality with the F-150, shifting its form factor to a truck-based five-door station wagon. Initially competing between the Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Suburban, the Expedition also serves a competitor against the Toyota Sequoia, Nissan Armada, and the Jeep (Grand) Wagoneer. From 2000 to 2006, the Expedition was slotted below the Ford Excursion in size. Currently in its fifth generation, the Expedition is produced in two wheelbases, with both versions offering seating for up to eight passengers.

🔍 Drive through every gear: watch for slipping, hard or delayed shifts, and shudder. Check for transmission/driveline leaks and noises.
🔍 Listen for knocks or ticking, check for leaks and blue/white exhaust smoke, and make sure it doesn't overheat. No check-engine light should be on.
🔍 Inspect for rust, fresh undercoating, mismatched paint, uneven panel gaps and any sign of prior collision or frame repair.
🔍 Have a trusted mechanic inspect this system as part of a pre-purchase inspection.
🔍 Test every electrical feature: windows, locks, infotainment, charging and all lights. Watch for flickering, dead accessories or warning lights.
🔍 Test cruise control and throttle response, and watch for any hesitation or unintended acceleration.
Pre-purchase checklist
- Match the VIN on the dash, door jamb and title — they must be identical.
- Cold-start the engine; listen for knocks and check for blue or white exhaust smoke.
- Test-drive through all gears at low and highway speed — no slipping, shudder or pulling.
- Confirm every warning light clears at startup (none should stay on).
- Check fluids — oil, coolant, transmission — for level, color and leaks.
- Look underneath for rust, fresh undercoating or signs of collision repair.
- Always get an independent pre-purchase inspection from a trusted mechanic.
