About CarLogs
CarLogs helps you know a vehicle before you trust it. Enter a VIN, a license plate, or a boat's hull number and we pull together everything on record — make and model, engine and specs, open safety recalls, title and salvage status, mileage, accidents and more.
17.5M+ vehicles and vessels are already searchable, spanning U.S. & global VINs, Dutch license plates, and U.S. Coast Guard documented boats.
Where our data comes from
We never invent data. Everything is compiled from official registries and licensed history databases:
- NHTSA (U.S. Dept. of Transportation) — VIN decoding and safety recalls.
- RDW (Netherlands) — the open Dutch vehicle register, by license plate.
- U.S. Coast Guard PSIX — the federal vessel registry, for boats and yachts.
- NMVTIS and licensed providers — title, salvage, theft and brand history behind our full reports.
Privacy first — about the car, not the person
This is core to who we are: CarLogs never shows a vehicle's owner. Linking a plate or VIN to a named individual is restricted by privacy law (the U.S. Driver's Privacy Protection Act, the EU's GDPR, and equivalents). We deliberately exclude all owner and keeper personal information — that's not a gap, it's the right thing to do.
How we make money
The instant decode, recalls, and vehicle details are free. We earn from advertising and from optional paid full-history reports for buyers who want the complete title, accident and lien records. No subscriptions required to look something up.
