Common problems & what to inspect

Based on all 19 owner complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2025 Cadillac Lyriq, here are the most-reported problem areas — and what to check before you buy.

💥 4 involved a crash 🔥 1 involved a fire 🚑 5 reported injuries

Electrical System 6 reports

🔍 Test every electrical feature: windows, locks, infotainment, charging and all lights. Watch for flickering, dead accessories or warning lights.

Forward Collision Avoidance 4 reports

🔍 Have a trusted mechanic inspect this system as part of a pre-purchase inspection.

Service Brakes 3 reports

🔍 Brakes should feel firm and quiet — no grinding, pulsing or pulling. Check for an ABS light and uneven pad/rotor wear.

🔍 Confirm the airbag light turns on then off at startup — if it stays lit there's a fault (costly, and a safety risk). Check for signs of prior deployment.

Power Train 2 reports

🔍 Drive through every gear: watch for slipping, hard or delayed shifts, and shudder. Check for transmission/driveline leaks and noises.
