Brakes
On certain vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, the automatic handbrake adjustment may fail to properly adjust the parking brake. If the transmission is left in a neutral state, the handbrake might not apply sufficient force to prevent a "roll-away" condition. Correction: Dealers will replace the automatic adjustment handbrake lever system.

About the Jaguar X-Type
The Jaguar X-Type is a compact executive car that was manufactured and marketed by Jaguar Cars from 2001 to 2009 for a single generation. Internally designated "X400", the X-Type was produced in four-door saloon car and five-door estate car body styles, becoming Jaguar's first estate car to enter series production. The X-Type has a front-mounted engine and either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and was Jaguar's first front-wheel drive car. It was also the first Jaguar with a diesel engine or a four-cylinder engine. The X-Type is considered a large family car by EuroNCAP and a compact car by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

PARKING BRAKE
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH LHD MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS, THE HAND BRAKE, WHICH APPLIES THE PARKING BRAKE, MAY NOT APPLY SUFFICIENT PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PADS TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING IF THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION WAS LEFT IN THE NEUTRAL POSITION. THE AUTOMATIC ADJUSTER WITHIN THE HAND BRAKE MAY NOT WORK PROPERLY CAUSING THE HAND BRAKE LEVER TO TRAVEL OUTSIDE THE RECOMMENDED RAN…
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE EXISTING AUTOMATIC ADJUSTMENT HAND BRAKE LEVER SYSTEM ON THE AFFECTED VEHICLES WITH A MANUAL HAND BRAKE LEVER SYSTEM. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 14, 2005. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT JAGUAR AT 1-800-452-4827.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 JAGUAR X-TYPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH OVER A BUMP, THE VEHICLE JERKED INTO ANOTHER LANE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR A MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 137,597.
