Service Brakes, Air › Supply › Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings — Heil · reported 3 Apr 2000 · 6 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
VEHICLE EQUIPMENT: PETROLEUM TANKER TRAILERS EQUIPED WITH BENDIX AIR BRAKE SYSTEM AIR DRYERS. THE RETAINING BOLTS FOR THE REED COVERS ON EITHER END OF THE TRAILER AIR DRYER MAY CRACK CAUSING THE BOLT HEADS TO COME OFF.
The risk
THE AIR BRAKE SYSTEM CAN LEAK AIR OUT FROM THE AIR DRYER CAUSING A LOW AIR WARNING BUZZER AND EVENTUALLY THE TRAILER PARKING BRAKES COMING TO FULL APPLY OR THE TRAILER'S PARKING BRAKES CAN ENGAGE WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
The fix
BENDIX IS CONDUCTING THE OWNER NOTIFICATION FOR THIS RECALL. OWNERS ARE INSTRUCTED TO CONTACT BENDIX AT 1-800-478-1793 TO RECEIVE A REPLACEMENT UNIT. BENDIX WILL REPLACE THE TRAILER AIR DRYERS WITHOUT CHARGE.

Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
