What's wrong

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. SOME OF THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT WITH FUEL TANKS WITH SUSPECT VENT TUBE WELDS.

The risk

SEPARATION OF THE VENT TUBE WELD COULD RESULT IN A FUEL LEAK. FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.

The fix

DEALERS WILL REPLACE ANY FUEL TANKS BUILT IN THE SUSPECT TIME PERIOD. THE VEHICLE WILL BE INSPECTED AND IF THE BAR CODE ON THE FUEL TANK INDICATES THAT THE TANK WAS BUILT DURING THE SUSPECT PERIOD, IT WILL BE REPLACED.

OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN AUGUST 28, 2000. Vehicles covered by this recall

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
