Recall 00V386003
Wheels › Hub — Transcraft · reported 21 Dec 2000 · 160 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH HUBS PROVIDED BY WEBB WHEEL PRODUCTS. THESE TRUCK TRAILER DISC WHEEL HUBS HAVE DIRECT-MACHINED ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEMS (ABS), PART NUMBER 2023A, AND MANUFACTURED BETWEEN APRIL 14 AND JUNE 7, 2000. THE ABS TEETH ARE MACHINED INTO THE INNER FACE OF THE HUB BORE, AND THE TEETH ARE MACHINED OFF CENTER FROM THE CENTER OF THE HUB. THE SPEED SENSOR OF THE ABS SYSTEM READS THE TOOTH PATTERN AND SENDS ERRONEOUS SIGNALS TO THE ABS CONTROL UNIT.
The risk
THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE THE ABS SYSTEM TO CYCLE RAPIDLY AND EXTEND STOPPING DISTANCES DURING AN ABS CONTROLLED BRAKE APPLICATION POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
The fix
WEBB WHEEL WILL NOTIFY ITS CUSTOMERS TO INSPECT FOR DEFECTIVE HUBS AND WILL REPLACE THE HUBS FREE OF CHARGE.
OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING DECEMBER 2000.OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT WEBB WHEEL AT 1-800-633-3256 OR TRANSCRAFT AT 1-618-833-5151. ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
