Recall 01V296001

Power Train › Manual Transmission — Independence · reported 21 Sep 2001 · 208 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTORCYCLES. ON REVTECH 6-SPEED TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLIES AND 6-SPEED GEARSETS, THE 4-6 SHIFT CLUTCH HAS THE POTENTIAL TO FAIL.

The risk

AS A RESULT, THE GEARSET COULD BECOME INOPERATIVE AND COULD CAUSE SEVERE TRANSMISSION DAMAGE. SUCH DAMAGE CAN CAUSE VEHICLE CONTROL PROBLEMS, INCLUDING LOCKING OF THE REAR WHEEL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

The fix

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE 4-6SHIFT CLUTCH AND SHIFT FORK. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT GLOBAL (REVTECH) AT 1-800-815-9762.

ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
