Recall 01V304000
Steering › Gear Box (other Than Rack And Pinion) — Prevost · reported 25 Sep 2001 · 1,153 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTOR HOMES. THE STEERING GEAR BOX IS MOUNTED ON A SUPPORT LOCATED UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT FLOOR. ON MOTOR HOME MODELS, THIS SUPPORT VARIES IN HEIGHT WITH THE OPTIONAL INTERIOR HEIGHT. WITH 83 AND 86 INCH HEIGHT OPTIONS, THE SUPPORT MAY BE OVERLOADED IN CERTAIN OPERATION CONDITIONS.
The risk
A CONTINUOUSLY FULLY LOADED VEHICLE THAT HAS TO MANEUVER IN TIGHT SPACE FREQUENTLY CAN DEVELOP STRESS CRACKS AT THE STEERING GEAR BOX SUPPORT. A LOSS OF CONTROL COULD OCCUR, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The fix
DEALERS WILL ADD A REINFORCEMENT TO THE STEERING SUPPORT. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN OCTOBER 5, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT PREVOST AT 418-831-5432.
ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
