Service Brakes, Hydraulic › Pedals And Linkages — Saturn · reported 19 Feb 2002 · 1,509 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLES WERE ASSEMBLED WITH AN INADEQUATE WELD AT THE BRAKE PEDAL PAD TO BRAKE PEDAL ACTUATOR ARM ASSEMBLY. DURING BRAKING, THE BRAKE PEDAL PAD COULD SEPARATE FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL ACTUATOR ARM.

The risk

IF THIS WERE TO OCCUR, THE DRIVER'S FOOT COULD BECOME DISLODGED FROM THE PEDAL RESULTING IN A LOSS OF BRAKE SYSTEM APPLICATION AND A VEHICLE CRASH COULD OCCUR.

The fix

DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND IF NECESSARY REPLACE THE BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN FEBRUARY 19, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT SATURN AT 1-800-553-6000, PROMPT #3.

ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
