Recall 02V092000

Trailer Hitches — Hart · reported 20 Mar 2002 · 428 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

ON CERTAIN BUMPER-PULL HORSE TRAILERS, THE SAFETY CABLES, USED TO MAINTAIN A CONNECTION BETWEEN THE TRAILER AND TOW VEHICLE, ARE NOT EQUIPPED WITH THIMBLES AND THUS DO NOT CONFORM TO SAE J684.

The risk

THE CABLE COULD FAIL ALLOWING THE TRAILER/TOW VEHICLE TO SEPARATE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

The fix

DEALERS WILL INSTALL NEW SAFETY CABLES WITH THIMBLES, WHICH CONFORM TO SAE J684. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN APRIL 1, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HART AT 1-888-810-4278.

CONSUMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
