Recall 03V073000 · manufacturer campaign 03507
Unknown Or Other — International · reported 6 Mar 2003 · 35 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
ON CERTAIN HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS BUILT WITH INTERNATIONAL CODE 16SCH (LOWER BUNK WEBBING RESTRAINT). FOUR BOLTS HOLD THE BUNK WEBBING RESTRAINT LATCH BRACKETS TO THE BUNK BASE. THESE BOLTS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE GRADE 8 BOLTS BUT GRADE 5 BOLTS WERE INSTALLED.
The risk
IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE RESTRAINT MAY NOT CONTAIN THE OCCUPANT AS REQUIRED BY FEDERAL MOTOR CARRIER SAFETY REGULATION 393.76 "SLEEPER BERTHS," AND MAY RESULT IN PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, OR DEATH.
The fix
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE ALL GRADE 5 BOLTS WITH GRADE 8 BOLTS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON MARCH 17, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT INTERNATIONAL AT 1-800-448-7825.
INTERNATIONAL RECALL NO. 03507.CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
