Recall 03V181000

Engine And Engine Cooling › Engine › Diesel — Eldorado · reported 14 May 2003 · 36 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

ON CERTAIN TRANSIT BUSES EQUIPPED WITH CUMMINS WESTPORT B GAS PLUS OR C GAS PLUS 6 CYLINDER ENGINES, THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE CALIBRATION MAY NOT CORRECTLY DETECT A THROTTLE PLATE ACTUATOR FAILURE THAT COULD RESULT IN AN UNCOMMANDED OPEN THROTTLE CONDITION.

The risk

IF THIS EVENT OCCURS, THE VEHICLE OPERATOR WILL NOT HAVE CONTROL OF THE ENGINE SPEED WHICH COULD POSSIBLY RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

The fix

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE CALIBRATION FREE OF CHARGE. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT CUMMINS CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AT 1-800-343-7357 OR ELDORADO NATIONAL AT 909-591-9557.

ALSO, CUSTOMERS CAN CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
