Recall 03V334000

Structure — Mid Bus · reported 4 Sep 2003 · 170 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

GUIDE SCHOOL BUSES, MODELS YEARS 1997 THROUGH 2003 MANUFACTURED FROM JANUARY 1, 1997, TO JULY 21, 2003. THE STOP ARM DOES NOT DEPLOY WHEN THE RED WARNING LIGHTS ARE TURNED ON AS REQUIRED UNDER FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 131, "SCHOOL BUS PEDESTRIAN SAFETY DEVICES."

The risk

IF THE STOP SIGNAL ARM IS NOT EXTENDED WHEN THE BUS IS LOADING OR UNLOADING PASSENGERS, IT MAY INCREASE THE LIKELIHOOD OF VEHICLES PASSING A STOPPED SCHOOL BUS AND STRIKING PEDESTRIANS IN THE VICINITY OF THE BUS.

The fix

MID BUS WILL NOTIFY ITS CUSTOMERS AND PROVIDE REMEDY FREE OF CHARGE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN SEPTEMBER 22, 2003.

ALSO, CUSTOMERS CAN CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
