NHTSA safety recall

Recall 03V345000 · manufacturer campaign 39

Seats — Ferrari · reported 15 Sep 2003 · 73 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

ON CERTAIN MODEL PASSENGER VEHICLES, AS A RESULT OF IMPROPER WELDING OF THE SEAT RAIL ASSEMBLIES, ONE SIDE OF THE SEAT MAY NOT FULLY LOCK INTO THE SET POSITION. UNDER EXTREME ACCELERATION OR DEACCELERATION CONDITIONS, THIS COULD CAUSE A ROCKING MOTION OF THE SEAT.

The risk

IF THE SEAT STARTED A ROCKING MOTION WHILE THE CUSTOMER WAS DRIVING, IT COULD POSE A SAFETY RISK TO THE DRIVER AS WELL AS OTHER VEHICLES AND COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE OR PROPERTY, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

The fix

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ENTIRE SEAT RAIL ASSEMBLIES ON BOTH SEATS. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING OCTOBER 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT FERRARI AT 1-201-816-2651.

FERRARI RECALL NO. 39.CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

Vehicles covered by this recall

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
