Recall 03V371000

Suspension — Finn · reported 6 Oct 2003 · 68 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

ON CERTAIN TRAILERS, THE AXLE UNITS HAVE A POTENTIAL FOR AN UNDER-MIN RADIUS ON THE AXLE SPINDLE. AN UNDERCUT SITUATION OR EXISTENCE OF A STRESS RISER MAY ALSO BE PRESENT.

The risk

THE PRESENCE OF THIS CONDITION CAN CREATE A STRESS RISER ON THE SPINDLE ARM CAUSING IT TO FAIL AT LOADS THAT IT WAS OTHERWISE DESIGNED TO ACCOMMODATE, RESULTING IN SEPARATION OF A WHEEL FROM THE AXLE ASSEMBLY.

The fix

DEALERS WILL INSTALL REPLACEMENT AXLES. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING OCTOBER 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT FINN AT 1-800-543-7166.

CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

Vehicles covered by this recall

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
