NHTSA safety recall

Recall 03V414000 · manufacturer campaign 03515

Service Brakes, Air › Supply › Compressor — International · reported 22 Oct 2003 · 924 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

ON CERTAIN TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH V8 ENGINES AND AIR BRAKES OR AIR OPERATED PARK BRAKES, A STAND-OFF BRACKET WAS NOT INSTALLED. THE BRACKET SUPPORTS THE COPPER AIR COMPRESSOR DISCHARGE TUBE. NORMAL VEHICLE AND ENGINE VIBRATION CAN CAUSE THE UNSUPPORTED COPPER TUBE TO FAIL AT OR NEAR THE AIR COMPRESSOR CONNECTION.

The risk

A FAILED COMPRESSOR DISCHARGE TUBE COULD DEPLETE THE AIR SYSTEM AND MAY CAUSE THE PARKING BRAKES TO APPLY. THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP UNEXPECTEDLY AND RESULT IN A CRASH.

The fix

DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPAIR THE STAND-OFF BRACKET AS NECESSARY. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING DECEMBER 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT INTERNATIONAL TRUCK AT 1-800-448-7825.

INTERNATIONAL RECALL NO. 03515.CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
