Recall 03V441000
Service Brakes, Air › Antilock — Hackney · reported 4 Nov 2003 · 28 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
CERTAIN DOUBLE TRAILERS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 121, "AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS." CONTINUOUS POWER IS NOT PROVIDED TO THE REAR ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR ON THE TOWING VEHICLE AS REQUIRED BY THE STANDARD.
The risk
THIS COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL DURING BRAKING AND A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
The fix
OWNERS WILL BE FURNISHED WITH AN ADD-ON WIRING HARNESS TO PROVIDE THIS CONTINUOUS POWER AND WILL BE REIMBURSED A FIX AMOUNT FOR INSTALLATION LABOR. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING DECEMBER 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT HACKNEY AT 1-252-946-6521.
CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
