Recall 03V469000 · manufacturer campaign 031015
Structure › Body › Tailgate › Hinge And Attachments — Benson · reported 12 Nov 2003 · 15 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
ON CERTAIN STEEL DUMP TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH TWO-WAY TAILGATES WHICH CAN OPEN AS BOTH A CONVENTIONAL TOP SWING AND A SIDE DOOR "BARN DOOR" TAILGATE, WHEN OPERATED AS CONVENTIONAL OR TOP SWING MODE, THE HINGE/LATCH MECHANISM ON THE ROADSIDE REAR POST MAY FAIL TO CONTAIN THE TAILGATE LATCHING/PIVOT PIN. THIS COULD ALLOW THE TAILGATE TO SWING OPEN.
The risk
THE UNEXPECTED OPERATION OF THE TAILGATE MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE TRAILER BODY AND IN PERSONAL INJURY.
The fix
BENSON WILL INSTALL A REDESIGNED TAILGATE LOCKING MECHANISM. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT BENSON AT 1-877-489-9020.
BENSON RECALL NO. 031015.CUSTOMERS CAN CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
