Recall 03V476000 · manufacturer campaign R3020
Service Brakes, Hydraulic › Foundation Components › Disc › Caliper — Infiniti · reported 14 Nov 2003 · 24,300 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPER MOUNTING BOLTS MAY NOT BE ADEQUATELY TIGHTENED. THIS COULD RESULT IN ONE OR BOTH OF THE CALIPER MOUNTING BOLTS LOOSENING.
The risk
IF THIS OCCURS, IT WOULD ALLOW THE CALIPER TO ROTATE OR SEPARATE FROM ITS MOUNTING BRACKET. THIS COULD CAUSE THE BRAKE TO FAIL, REDUCING THE VEHICLE'S ABILITY TO STOP. IT COULD ALSO DAMAGE THE WHEEL, CAUSING THE TIRE TO GO FLAT. EITHER ONE OF THESE CONDITIONS COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
The fix
DEALERS WILL TIGHTEN THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPER MOUNTING BOLTS TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE SECURE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON JANUARY 5, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT INFINITI AT 1-800-662-6200.
NISSAN RECALL NO. R3020.CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
