Recall 03V501000
Service Brakes, Air — Featherlite · reported 5 Dec 2003 · 9 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
ON CERTAIN CUSTOM BUILT SPECIALTY TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH DEXTER AXLES AND CREWSON AUTOMATIC SLACK ADJUSTERS, THE PUSH ROD ARMS ON THE AXLE BRAKES ARE TOO LONG.
The risk
PUSH ROD ARMS THAT ARE TOO LONG COULD CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SLACK ADJUSTER OR IMPEDE PROPER BRAKE ADJUSTMENT, RESULTING IN ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE INCLUDING PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE OR BOTH.
The fix
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE PUSH RODS FOR THE CORRECT LENGTH. IF DAMAGED THE SLACK ADJUSTER WILL BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED. IF NOT DAMAGED, THE PUSH RODS WILL BE SHORTENED BY CUTTING TO .26". OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN DECEMBER 13, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT FEATHERLITE AT 1-800-800-1230.
CUSTOMERS CAN CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
