Recall 03V509000 · manufacturer campaign R842
Exterior Lighting › Headlights — Jaguar · reported 4 Dec 2003 · 39,448 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE HEADLAMP ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM MAY BE OPERATED WITHOUT SUITABLE INSTRUCTION ON EITHER THE MECHANISM OR IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. THIS DOES NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, "LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT."
The risk
AN IMPROPERLY AIMED HEADLAMP COULD PROVIDE LESS EFFECTIVE ROADWAY ILLUMINATION OR COULD CAUSE INCREASED GLARE TO ONCOMING VEHICLES.
The fix
OWNERS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH AN OWNER'S MANUAL ADDENDUM CONTAINING THE NECESSARY HEADLAMP AIMING INSTRUCTIONS. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON JANUARY 6, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT JAGUAR AT 1-800-452-4827.
JAGUAR RECALL NO. R842.CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
