Fuel System, Other › Storage › Tank Assembly › Pressure Relief Devices — Crane · reported 21 Jul 2004 · 3 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

CERTAIN TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH NEXGEN LIQUID NATURAL GAS (LNG) TANKS ARE BEING RECALLED. THE INTRODUCTION OF WATER INTO THE DISCHARGE SIDE OF BOTH THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY RELIEF VALVES SIMULTANEOUSLY AND SUBSEQUENT FREEZING IN SERVICE CAN RENDER THE VALVES TEMPORARILY INOPERATIVE.

The risk

IF NOT INSPECTED THE RISK OF TANK OVER-PRESSURIZATION AND A CATASTROPHIC TANK RUPTURE CAN OCCUR, POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

The fix

CRANE WILL PERFORM AN INSPECTION AND PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS FOR ORDERING AND INSTALLING THE RETROFIT KIT. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JULY 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT CRANE AT 918-832-7305.

CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
