Recall 04V341000 · manufacturer campaign R04HU
Service Brakes, Air › Supply › Check Valve — Blue Bird · reported 19 Jul 2004 · 48 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
CERTAIN MOTOR COACHES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 121, "AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS." THESE BUSES WERE MANUFACTURED WITHOUT THE CHECK VALVE, WHICH PROTECTS THE FRONT SERVICE BRAKE RESERVOIR.
The risk
LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE COULD RESULT IN LONGER STOPPING DISTANCES WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
The fix
DEALERS WILL ADD THE REQUIRED CHECK VALVE TO THE FRONT AIR BRAKE SERVICE RESERVOIR TO INSURE COMPLIANCE WITH FMVSS NO. 121. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 30, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT BLUE BIRD AT 478-822-2242.
BLUE BIRD RECALL NO. R04HU.CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
