Recall 04V435000 · manufacturer campaign SPEC 04017
Power Train › Clutch Assembly › Pedal/hand Lever(motorcycle) — Spartan · reported 9 Sep 2004 · 171 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
ON CERTAIN MOTORHOMES EQUIPPED WITH CATERPILLAR ENGINES, THE ADJUSTABLE PEDAL RETURN SPRINGS MAY RETURN THE PEDAL SHAFT TO THE HOME POSITION WHILE NOT FULLY RETURNING THE POTENTIOMETER KEY TO ITS HOME POSITION.
The risk
IN A NEUTRAL OR NO LOAD SITUATION: THE ENGINE WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE IDLE SPEED UNTIL IT REACES FULL GOVERNED RPM. THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ALLOW SHIFT FROM NEUTRAL TO ANY GEAR OVER 900 ENGINE RPM. IN GEAR OR UNDER LOAD: THE ENGINE MAY NOT RETURN TO 725 RPM (NORMAL IDLE) WHICH WILL REQUIRE ADDITIONAL EFFORT BY THE SERVICE BRAKES TO OVERCOME THE ADDITIONAL ENGINE RPM DURING BRAKING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The fix
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE THROTTLE PEDAL. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 17, 2004, BY PHONE CALLS. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT SPARTAN AT 517-543-6400.

Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
