Recall 04V440000 · manufacturer campaign 04100
Wheels › Hub — Wilson · reported 15 Sep 2004 · 448 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
ON CERTAIN TRAILERS, THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY HUB SPINDLE NUT ON EACH AXLE MAY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED WITHOUT A "KEEPER." THE PURPOSE OF THE KEEPER IS TO LOCK THE SPINDLE NUT IN PLACE AND, THEREBY, SECURE THE WHEEL TO THE AXLE.
The risk
FAILURE TO INSTALL THE KEEPER CAN CAUSE THE WHEEL ON THE AFFECTED AXLE TO COME OFF AND CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY TO OTHER PERSONS OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE AND PROPERTY DAMAGE.
The fix
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND DETERMINE IF EACH WHEEL ASSEMBLY LACKS A KEEPER. IF THE KEEPER IS NOT PRESENT, IT WILL BE INSTALLED. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT WILSON TRAILER COMPANY AT 1-800-798-2002.
WILSON TRAILER RECALL NO. 04100.CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
