Recall 04V508000 · manufacturer campaign 04520
Suspension › Front › Springs › Leaf Spring Assembly › Hanger,bracket — International · reported 27 Oct 2004 · 703 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
ON CERTAIN TRUCKS BUILT WITH IROS REAR AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEMS, FOUR REAR SUSPENSION FASTENERS MAY NOT BE TIGHTENED SUFFICIENTLY. THIS HARDWARE CONNECTS THE MAIN SUPPORT MEMBERS OF THE REAR SUSPENSION TO THE HANGER BRACKETS.
The risk
THIS CONNECTION COULD FAIL IF THE NUTS WORKED THEIR WAY LOOSE OR OFF, OR THE BOLTS BROKE FROM FATIGUE. A FAILURE OF THESE FASTENERS COULD RESULT IN SEPARATION OF THE MAIN SUPPORT FROM THE HANGER BRACKET POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A SUDDEN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
The fix
DEALERS WILL REPLACE ALL FOUR BOLTS AND TIGHTEN THE BOLTS PROPERLY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 5, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT INTERNATIONAL AT 1-800-448-7825.
INTERNATIONAL RECALL NO. 04520. CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
