Recall 04V610000

Steering › Linkages › Tie Rod Assembly — Gillig · reported 28 Dec 2004 · 324 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

ON SOME BUSES, CERTAIN TIE ROD CLAMPS INSTALLED ON TIE ROD ASSEMBLIES COULD FAIL AND LEAD TO A STEERING MALFUNCTION.

The risk

IF BOTH CLAMPS WERE TO FAIL AND THE CROSS TUBE START TO UNSCREW, SIGNIFICANT VEHICLE MISALIGNMENT WOULD EVOLVE WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR THE TIE ROD END TO SEPARATE FROM THE CROSS TUBE, RESULTING IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

The fix

ARVIN-MERITOR WILL NOTIFY GILLIG CUSTOMERS AND CONDUCT THE REMEDY AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT ARVIN-MERITOR AT 1-248-435-1000 OR GILLIG AT 1-510-785-1500.

CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
