Recall 05V044000 · manufacturer campaign R05JJ
Exterior Lighting › Brake Lights — Blue Bird · reported 8 Feb 2005 · 22 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
ON CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES, A CIRCUIT DESIGN RESULTED IN A 12.1 AMP CIRCUIT DRAW IN THE BRAKE LIGHT CIRCUIT WHEN IT IS PROTECTED BY A 10 AMP CIRCUIT BREAKER.
The risk
THE CURRENT DRAW MAY CAUSE THE CIRCUIT BREAKER TO FAIL RESULTING IN A LOSS OF BRAKE LIGHTS WITH NO WARNING TO THE DRIVER BEFORE OR AFTER THE FUSE BLOWS. A FOLLOWING DRIVER MAY NOT KNOW WHEN THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN APPLIED, AND A REAR-END CRASH COULD OCCUR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
The fix
DEALERS WILL MODIFY THE CIRCUIT TO INCORPORATE RELAYS TO REDUCE CURRENT DRAW IN THE FUSED CIRCUIT TO LESS THAN 10 AMPERES. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 2, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BLUE BIRD AT 478-825-2021.
BLUE BIRD RECALL NO. R05JJ.CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT1-888-327-4236.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
