NHTSA safety recall

Recall 05V072000

Seats — Pierce · reported 4 Mar 2005 · 1,600 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

CERTAIN FIRE TRUCKS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 207, 'SEATING SYSTEMS.' THE SEAT TETHER RESTRAINS THE SEAT DURING PULL TESTING AS THE SUSPENSION COMPONENTS ARE NOT DESIGNED TO RESTRAIN THE SEAT ON THEIR OWN. THE SUSPENSION SEAT TETHERS ARE TOO LONG.

The risk

THE OCCUPANT WILL EXPERIENCE INSUFFICIENT SUSPENSION SEAT RESTRAINT WHICH COULD LEAD TO PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH.

The fix

DEALERS WILL REPLACE SUSPENSION SEAT TETHERS WITH SHORTER TETHERS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 11, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT PIERCE AT 1-888-974-3723.

CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
