NHTSA safety recall

Recall 05V111000 · manufacturer campaign SC0293

Power Train › Axle Assembly — Mack · reported 24 Mar 2005 · 39 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

ON CERTAIN TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH THE FXL AXLE AND MERITOR 16.5 X 5 BRAKES WITH DUST SHIELDS, THERE MAY BE INTERFERENCE BETWEEN THE DUST SHIELD MOUNTING BOLT AND THE KNUCKLE ON THE FRONT AXLE. AS A RESULT OF THE INTERFERENCE, THE BOLT JOINT BETWEEN THE WHEEL END AND THE KNUCKLE MAY NOT MEET THE TORQUE REQUIREMENTS.

The risk

THIS COULD RESULT IN VIBRATION OR BRAKE PERFORMANCE ISSUES. BRAKING CAPABILITY WOULD BE DIMINISHED, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

The fix

DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE HUB AND BRAKE ASSEMBLY TO INSTALL A NEW DUST SHIELD FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 17, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MACK TRUCKS 610-709-2131.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
