Recall 05V309000 · manufacturer campaign 05-055

Wheels — Keystone · reported 6 Jul 2005 · 2,668 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

ON CERTAIN FIFTH WHEEL TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH 16", 6-BOLT ALUMINUM WHEEL OPTION WITH 5.5" BOLT CIRCLES, FOREIGN MATERIAL MAY BE PRESENT IN THE 'CLAMP JOINT' (MATING SURFACE BETWEEN THE WHEEL AND HUB FACE. THIS CAN HINDER THE PROPER TORQUE OF THE LUG NUTS IF THE NUTS ARE NOT INSTALLED WITH THE PROPER TORQUE DURING MANUFACTURE, RE-TIGHTENED DURING THE INITIAL 'SEATING IN' PERIOD AND/OR THERE IS A FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES.

The risk

IF THE LUG NUTS DO NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT TORQUE, THE WHEEL COULD SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

The fix

DEALERS WILL REMOVE ALL PAINT AND FOREIGN MATERIAL FROM THE WHEEL AND HUB MATING SURFACE. THEN THE LUG NUTS WILL BE PROPERLY TORQUED. THE RECALL BEGAN SEPTEMBER 7, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT KEYSTONE AT 1-574-535-2100.

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
