Recall 05V357000
Tires — Mcneilus · reported 11 Aug 2005 · 107 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
CERTAIN CONCRETE MIXERS AND REFUSE TRUCKS BUILT ON MACK CHASSIS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 120, "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES OTHER THAN PASSENGER CARS." THE WHEELS AND TIRES DO NOT MATCH THE CAPACITY THAT THE TRUCKS WOULD REQUIRE.
The risk
OMISSION OF THE TIRE LOAD RANGE MAY LEAD TO THE INSTALLATION OF TIRES WITH LOAD RANGES NOT APPROPRIATE FOR VEHICLE USE. A FAILURE OCCURRING IN TIRES DUE TO INAPPROPRIATE LOAD RANGE MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND A CRASH CAN OCCUR.
The fix
DEALERS WILL SUPPLY NEW STEER WHEELS AND TIRES WITH A MINIMUM 10,000 LB. RATING. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MCNEILUS AT 507-374-6321.
CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236; (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
