Recall 05V411000 · manufacturer campaign R3150510
Engine And Engine Cooling — Mitsubishi Fuso · reported 15 Sep 2005 · 301 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
ON CERTAIN TRUCKS, THE CYLINDER HEAD IDLER GEAR BUSHING MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY MACHINED, CAUSING EXCESSIVE STRESS ON THE CYLINDER HEAD GEAR SHAFT.
The risk
CONTINUED OPERATION IN THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE THE IDLER GEAR SHAFT FLANGE TO BREAK AND GENERATE ABNORMAL ENGINE NOISE AND/OR ENGINE OIL LEAKS. IN THE WORST CASE, THE ENGINE COULD STALL AND WOULD NOT RESTART, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The fix
DEALERS WILL MEASURE THE INSIDE DIAMETER OF THE CYLINDER HEAD IDLER GEAR BUSHING. IF THE BUSHING IS OUT OF SPECIFICATION, DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE IDLER GEAR BUSHING, IDLER GEAR SHAFT, AND IDLER GEAR ASSEMBLY FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 20, 2005. Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
