Electrical System › 12v/24v/48v Battery — Daimlerchrysler · reported 5 Oct 2005 · 123 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

ON CERTAIN TRANSIT BUSES EQUIPPED WITH SURE POWER BATTERY EQUALIZERS, P/N 52210 24V/12V 100 AMP SERIES 1, THE EQUALIZERS MAY EXPERIENCE A FAILURE MODE. THESE EQUALIZERS USED AN INDUCTOR WITH THE COILS PROTECTED BY INSULATION. OVER TIME, THE INDUCTOR INSULATION MAY DEGRADE CREATING A SHORT.

The risk

THE SHORTED INDUCTOR MAY CAUSE THE BATTERY EQUALIZER TO SMOKE OR BURN, AND POSSIBLY RESULT IN A FIRE.

The fix

SURE POWER WILL NOTIFY DC'S CUSTOMERS AND REPLACE THE EQUALIZERS FREE OF CHARGE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT SURE POWER AT 1-800-845-6269 EXT. 113.

CUSTOMERS MAY CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236; (TTY:1-800-424-9153); OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
