Recall 06V027000 · manufacturer campaign 06-012-ACU
Equipment — Girardin · reported 2 Feb 2006 · 13 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
CERTAIN GIRARDIN 2004 AND 2005 MB IV SCHOOL AND COMMERCIAL BUSES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JULY 6, 2004, AND FEBRUARY 10, 2005, EQUIPPED WITH CARRIER COMPRESSOR MOUNT BRACKETS, P/N 86-62400-00. THIS WELD IS USED TO MOUNT THE SECONDARY COMPRESSOR FOR THE SUPPLEMENTAL AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM ON TO THE ENGINE. IF THE INSTALLER DOES NOT ADEQUATELY TORQUE THE MOUNTING HARDWARE OR THERE IS A POOR QUALITY WELD AT THE WELDMENT'S SUPPORT TAB, THE WELDMENT CAN BREAK OR FALL OFF.
The risk
IF THE WELDMENT BREAKS OR FALLS OFF, THE COMPRESSOR AND VACUUM PUMP COULD SHIFT CAUSING THE MISALIGNMENT AND EVENTUAL LOSS OF THE DRIVE BELT, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF OR IMPEDANCE TO THE VEHICLE'S PRIMARY BRAKING SYSTEM, AND COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A VEHICLE CRASH.
The fix

Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
