Recall 06V058000 · manufacturer campaign R06KP
Structure › Body — Blue Bird · reported 24 Feb 2006 · 13 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
CERTAIN BLUE BIRD MY 2006 MICRO BIRD SCHOOL BUSES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY." THE AFFECTED BUSES WERE PRODUCED WITH AN 8 INCH BUMPER RATHER THAN A 10 INCH BUMPER.
The risk
IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE BUMPER MAY INADEQUATELY PROTECT COMPONENTS OF THE FUEL SYSTEM. THIS COULD RESULT IN A POST-CRASH FUEL LEAK WHICH, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
The fix
BLUE BIRD WILL NOTIFY ITS CUSTOMERS AND REPLACE THE BUMPER FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 13, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BLUE BIRD AT 478-822-2242.
BLUE BIRD RECALL NO. R06KP.CUSTOMERS MAY CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
