Recall 06V130000

Steering › Steering Wheel/handle Bar — Kawasaki · reported 24 Apr 2006 · 6,746 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE BOLT THAT ATTACHES THE STEERING DAMPER BODY TO THE FRAME BRACKET MAY NOT HAVE BEEN TIGHTENED SUFFICIENTLY DURING VEHICLE ASSEMBLY.

The risk

IF THE BOLT LOOSENS AND BACKS OUT COMPLETELY, THE STEERING DAMPER COULD INHIBIT FREE MOVEMENT OF THE STEERING ASSEMBLY CAUSING A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. THIS COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

The fix

DEALERS WILL TIGHTEN THE STEERING DAMPER BOLT TO THE PROPER TORQUE AND INSPECT THE DAMPER MOVEMENT. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 28, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT KAWASAKI AT 1-866-802-9381.

CUSTOMERS MAY CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
