Recall 06V170000

Engine And Engine Cooling › Engine › Diesel — Hme · reported 18 May 2006 · 75 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

ON CERTAIN FIRE TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH CUMMINS ISL CM850 DIESEL ENGINES, THE CONNECTING RODS WHICH TRANSFER ENERGY FROM THE PISTON TO THE CRANKSHAFT ARE DEFECTIVE AND CAN RESULT IN SEIZURE OF THE PISTON PIN. A PISTON PIN SEIZURE CAN RESULT IN A MISSION-DISABLING ENGINE FAILURE.

The risk

THIS CONDITION COULD ULTIMATELY RESULT IN A LOSS OF VEHICLE POWER (ENGINE STALL) INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

The fix

DEALERS ARE WORKING WITH CUMMINS TO REPLACE THE CONNECTING RODS FREE OF CHARGE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HME AT 616-534-1463 OR CUMMINS AT 1-800-DIESELS.

CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

Vehicles covered by this recall

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
