Recall 06V202000 · manufacturer campaign R06KU

Parking Brake › Conventional › Air — Blue Bird · reported 8 Jun 2006 · 272 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

CERTAIN 2007 VISION SCHOOL BUSES EQUIPPED WITH BENDIX AIR BRAKES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN APRIL 7 AND MAY 26, 2006. THE CHECK VALVE INSIDE THE VALVE CAVITY MAY NOT PROPERLY SEAT, CAUSING INTERNAL AIR LEAKAGE. THIS CAN CAUSE A DELAY IN THE APPLICATION OF THE SPRING BRAKE TO PARK THE VEHICLE AFTER THE OPERATOR PULLS THE DASH VALVE BUTTON.

The risk

THE DELAYED PARKING BRAKE APPLICATION CAN OCCUR WITHOUT WARNING, LEADING TO UNINTENDED VEHICLE ROLLAWAY, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH, PERSONAL INJURY, OR DEATH.

The fix

BLUE BIRD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE BRAKE VALVE FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 31, 2006. OWNERS CAN CONTACT BLUE BIRD AT 478-822-2242.

BLUE BIRD RECALL NO. R06KU.CUSTOMERS MAY CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
