Recall 06V229000

Power Train › Axle Hubs — Forest River · reported 16 Jun 2006 · 697 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

ON CERTAIN TRAILERS, THE WHEEL STUD CAN FAIL AND SEPARATES AT THE BASE OF THE THREAD. THIS REDUCES CLAMP FORCE ON THE WHEEL.

The risk

THE STUDS SNAP OFF AND THE WHEEL AND TIRE ARE NO LONGER SECURED TO THE HUB. THE WHEEL MAY SEPARATE FROM THE TRAILER CAUSING IT TO BE A PROJECTILE ON THE HIGHWAY INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

The fix

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE HUBS WITH NEW STUDS FREE OF CHARGE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FOREST RIVER AT 574-389-4600.

CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.
