Recall 06V387000 · manufacturer campaign FL-480

Power Train › Driveline — Freightliner · reported 11 Oct 2006 · 9 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

ON CERTAIN TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH ARVINMERITOR RPL20 HIGH ANGLE INTERAXLE DRIVESHAFTS, AN IMPROPER SEATED OR MISSING SNAP RING CAN RESULT IN THE BEARING CUP TO SEPARATE FROM THE SLIP YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY. THE UNIVERSAL JOINT CROSS COULD THEN CONTACT THE SLIP YOKE CASTING AND EVENTUALLY CAUSE THE EAR WORK TO FRACTURE.

The risk

THIS COULD RESULT IN ADDITIONAL DAMAGE TO THE DRIVELINE, THE VEHICLE TO WHICH IT IS ATTACHED AND ANY ADDITIONAL NEARBY OBJECTS.

The fix

DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE DRIVESHAFTS AND REPLACE THEM AS NEEDED. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 6, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FREIGHTLINER AT 1-800-547-0712.

Vehicles covered by this recall

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
