Recall 06V448000

Service Brakes, Air — Great Dane · reported 28 Nov 2006 · 5,671 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

ON CERTAIN TRAILERS, DURING MANUFACTURE, SOME OF THE PIPE FITTINGS WERE DRILLED TOO DEEP, RESULTING IN A THIN WALL IN THE MALE PIPE THREAD. THE MALE PIPE THREAD MAY BREAK OFF DURING OR AFTER ASSEMBLY.

The risk

IF THE FITTING FAILS WHILE IN USE, THE AIR BRAKE SYSTEM COULD DEPRESSURIZE, CAUSING THE BRAKES TO ENGAGE SUDDENLY, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

The fix

DEALERS WILL QUARANTINE THE VEHICLES AND REPLACE DEFECTIVE FITTING FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 21, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT GREAT DANE AT 1-800-633-4176.

CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
