Recall 07V073000 · manufacturer campaign 07KW1
Service Brakes, Air — Kenworth · reported 2 Mar 2007 · 1,377 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
CERTAIN TRUCKS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 121, "AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS." THE TRAILER LIGHT LINE MAY HAVE BEEN ROUTED USING TOO TIGHT OF A BEND RADIUS. THIS ROUTING METHOD COULD CAUSE THE WIRES WITHIN THE HARNESS PLUG TO BE PULLED AWAY FROM THE CHASSIS PLUG RESULTING IN AN INTERMITTENT OR COMPLETE ELECTRICAL POWER LOSS TO THE TRAILER.
The risk
SHOULD POWER BE LOST, THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS WOULD NOT PROVIDE POWER TO THE ANTILOCK SYSTEM ON THE TOWED VEHICLE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The fix
DEALERS WILL REROUTE THE LIGHT LINE TO ELIMINATE THE EXCESSIVE BEND RADIUS AND REPLACE ANY PLUG OR HARNESS THAT HAS BEEN DAMAGED FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 16, 2007. OWNER MAY CONTACT KENWORTH AT 425-828-5440.
PACCAR RECALL NO. 07KW1.CUSTOMERS MAY CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
