What's wrong
ON CERTAIN MEDIUM DUTY TRUCKS, THE BRAKE VACUUM HOSE MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH INSUFFICIENT WALL THICKNESS ALLOWING THE HOSE TO COLLAPSE DURING NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION.
The risk
CONTINUED OPERATION OF THIS VEHICLE IN THIS CONDITION COULD (1) WITH RESPECT TO THE FE83D FE84D, AND FG84D MODELS, RESTRICT PROPER OPERATION OF THE BRAKE POWER-ASSIST AND COMPROMISE BRAKING PERFORMANCE; AND (2) WITH RESPECT TO THE FE85D MODEL, RESTRICT PROPER OPERATION OF THE EXHAUST BRAKE SYSTEM. EITHER OCCURRENCE COULD LEAD TO COMPROMISED BRAKING PERFORMANCE AND INCREASED BRAKING DISTANCES, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
The fix
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE VACUUM HOSE WITH A HOSE MANUFACTURED WITH WALLS OF PROPER THICKNESS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 20, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MITSUBISHI FUSO AT 1-856-467-3917.
MITSUBISHI FUSO RECALL NO.C1002510.CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
