Recall 07V255000 · manufacturer campaign FL-499
Power Train › Axle Assembly — Freightliner · reported 7 Jun 2007 · 97 vehicles potentially affected
What's wrong
ON CERTAIN TRUCKS BUILT WITH DANA REAR AXLES, THE HOUSINGS MAY CONTAIN THINNER MATERIAL THAN WHAT IS NECESSARY FOR NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION.
The risk
OVER TIME, THIS THINNER MATERIAL MAY RESULT IN A FATIGUE FAILURE OF THE REAR AXLE HOUSING, POSSIBLY IN THE LOCATION OF THE BRAKE FLANGE. A CRACK IN THE BRAKE FLANGE LOCATION OF THE REAR AXLE HOUSING MAY RESULT IN A WHEEL END LOCKUP OR WHEEL SEPARATION POSSIBLY RESULTING IN PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, OR DEATH.
The fix
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE VEHICLE'S REAR AXLES AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE AXLE HOUSINGS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 10, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FREIGHTLINER AT 1-800-547-0712.
FREIGHTLINER RECALL NO. FL-499.CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.
Vehicles covered by this recall
Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Is this car's recall fixed?
Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
