Recall 07V304000

Equipment › Mechanical › Carrier/rack — Big Tex · reported 17 Jul 2007 · 321 vehicles potentially affected

What's wrong

ON CERTAIN FLATBED UTILITY TRAILERS, THERE IS AN INSUFFICIENT WELD OF THE RAMP HANGER POCKETS THAT STORE THE RAMPS WHEN NOT IN USE ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT UNDERSIDE OF THE TRAILER BED. IF THE WELD IS INSUFFICIENT, IT COULD CAUSE THE RAMP HANGER POCKET TO DETACH, DROPPING THE RAMP TO THE GROUND OR ROADWAY.

The risk

A FAILURE OF THE RAMP HANGER POCKETS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE TO INCLUDE PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE OR BOTH.

The fix

DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND ADD TWO 'HAT BRACKETS' (ONE UNDER EACH HANGER POCKET) BY BOLTING THE BRACKET TO THE UNDERSIDE OF EACH AFFECTED TRAILER TO FURTHER SECURE THE RAMP POCKETS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 15, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BIG TEX TRAILERS AT 1-800-594-5637.

CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

Whether a particular car is affected and still unrepaired depends on its VIN — a model year being listed does not mean every car of that year is included. Check any VIN free on CarLogs, or at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Is this car's recall fixed?

Recall repairs are free at any franchised dealer, for the life of the vehicle. A CarLogs report shows the recall status for a specific VIN as reported by the manufacturer — whether it's open or repaired, and whether the fix is available yet.
